Oh, when I was at Oxford as an exchange student we all used to make fun of the pasty-skinned concave-chested brit boys too. but every girl i know who got a brit boy got a marvellous prize so i don't know about this doltish 15-year old's opinion. she should have kept her mouth shut till dad was out of office. Maybe the brit boys will get equal time to reply about yank girls?

Wonder what she looks like.

And by the ripe old age of 15, she has it all figured out. What does she have to compare it to?

Surely no reasonable person would deny that this State Department is in shambles. Madeline Albright shouldn't be allowed on the premises much less near the office that's been held by the likes of Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, John Foster Dulles, Henry Kissinger, George Schultz and James Baker. She's a disgrace and an embarrassment to the country.

Well, last night I got turned on to a truly abysmal drink, consumed by an (overweight) bartender friend of mine, non-stop, whilst working. shot and a half of Bailey's Irish Creme, shot of Bushmill's, and coffee. Ouch. If she'd move over to straight Bushmills or better yet black coffee, she might just recover her girlish figure.

This site seems to be very paranoid (not just the posters) and highly regulated.
When I last visited the site (10 or so months ago with a different handle that I have forgotten) there was none of this stuff going on.... or maybe I forgot that too!
Maybe I'm remembering another site that offers free and unfettered debate on issues political and topical.
If I have come to the wrong site could someone suggest what its URL might be.
It was a conservative news based forum run by a syndicated columnist, any ideas?

Staff, you will not listen but this is the law as it stands...
The fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction or by any other means, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include-
(1) the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
(2) the nature of the copyrighted work;
(3) the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and
(4) the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.
The fact that a work is unpublished shall not itself bar a finding of fair use if such finding is made upon consideration of all the above factors.
A former poster (note the use of the word former) informed you of this yesterday and you merely closed the thread.
If you bother to reply to this please switch the bold off. It does not give you more authority.
Thread closed?

J,
You don't know who I am but I know you through a fellow hack and I agree totally!
The conventions are rather established in copyright law and there is next to zero chance of this changing in the future.
Without the law as it stands the world would be reduced to one without news, criticism or debate i.e. totalitarianism
I am in shock that Luci is ignorant of the strength of the copyright law and the fact that it has been thoroughly tested.
In response to the post stating that Luci would win a case but she could be bankrupted in the process is equally ignorant. Any judge would immediately award costs to Luci.
I hope that this web site improves in the future. I will check back in a few months to see if it has recovered from this temporary lapse.
By the way I studied Journalism at a respected school and was well versed in Media Law and Regulation, as I'm sure the ephemeral JJ is.
GoodBye and Goodluck

You insist on a detailed reply? Okay, lets look at what the law says:
In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include-
(1) the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
Look at the top of the page. Do you see those advertisements? Lucianne.com is not a nonprofit site. We are a commercial site.
(2) the nature of the copyrighted work;
(3) the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and
We have told you that the Fair Use Doctrine permits you to quote a sentence or two from a news article or a web site if you credit the author and provide a link to the site you are quoting from.
(4) the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.
We have warned you that posting copyrighted information can get us sued for copyright violation and we have given you this link so that you can see that we are not just being paranoid about this.
We have warned you that replies which violate copyright law will be removed. And we have warned you that repeat violators will be banned.
If you refuse to accept our reasonable explanations, and insist on fighting with us about this simple request to obey the law, you will leave us with no choice but to revoke your posting privleges.

I would not mind but an evil poster called Quidnunc has been allowed the last word. Is he a relative???
I feel genuinely sad that so many decent people no longer wish to be associated with your site. For you to describe Pinfold's thread as "mindless" was mindless in itself. He is easily the most intelligent person you or I have ever nearly come across.
All I can say, My Dear, is read all about it!
PS - I have always suspected it was you who posted that remark about Le Carre being Australian. Can you prove otherwise?"
